The homeowners came to us wanting to remodel their small, inefficient and outdated kitchen. Some items on their wish-list were an island with seating, a gas cooktop, and granite countertops.
We removed the wall between the existing dining room and kitchen. We also enclosed an existing doorway between the hallway and the kitchen to allow for a functional L-shaped kitchen. A three person island was planned so that all of the family could be seated at the island at one time. The homeowner reports that it's a wonderful space for their daughter to spread out and do homework or school projects.
Classic, Brookhill-style, maple cabinets from Medallion cabinets with a chestnut stain were used. - The rich color is complemented along the wall with Black Galaxy granite, a black granite with specks of copper. Juperana Delicatus granite was used on the island for a contrast, both with color and the size of the granite grain, to separate the island and add dynamics to the area.
- A natural slate tile was used on the floor. It a beautiful and durable choice for flooring- this exact tile is currently what the Columbus Fish Market has in its Grandview location.
- The backsplash is a Durango limestone with glass accents

Other special considerations for the project include:
- Installing a prep sink to better accommodate 2 people in the kitchen
- Allowing for a gas cooktop by tapping into their existing gas line
- Upgraded the lighting package with a combination of recessed can, undercabinet task and hanging fixtures. The cans and the hanging fixtures are on dimmer switches to add more control over the lighting
