Project Description

The homeowner approached us wanting their new kitchen to have a design that tied in the look of the surrounding rooms, had a better traffic flow and an overall updated look.

To do this we simplified the design by removing the cabinets over the peninsula to create a more open look to the kitchen and facilitate being able to easily interact with people in the adjoining dinette and family room.

To help to improve the function of the kitchen we also moved the refrigerator so that it would not interfere with the peninsula.

We moved the dishwasher out of the corner of the "U" to the end of the peninsula so that one could stand at the sink and load dishes.

We removed the existing fluorescent light box and all of the soffits except for those over the cabinetry. This helps to clean up the ceiling line and adds to the simplification of the kitchen.

Although room was tight, we added a small overhang to the peninsula so that the family can sit at the countertop and interact with the cook.

Some notes about the materials:

  • Cherry Medallion Designer cabinets were used in the Brookhill F2 doorstyle
  • The floor was replaced with an engineered hardwood
  • The countertops were UbaTuba granite
